The Dordogne Region

Weather

The Dordogne is blessed with many days of clear blue skies, crisp and sunny in the winter and spring, warm and bright in the summer and autumn - grape vines, plum trees, kiwis and strawberries grow in abundance.

The winter nights can be cold but the summers are rarely uncomfortably scorching being generally warm and dry with temperatures often around 30 degrees.

Night Markets

A wonderful experience for those who visit during July and August. Local villages fill their squares with tables and chairs, then local traders sell their food and wine so as you can enjoy a evening meal under the stars. Soak up the atmosphere whilst local musicians entertain you.

Markets

Many villages have weekly or twice weekly markets and depending on the time of year these can be large or small. We prefer the smaller, non touristy ones as the quality is better, generally fresher and often a lot more local. Either way you can have a drink at one of the local the bars or cafes and watch the world go by.

Chateaux and Vineyard Tours

The Dordogne is proud of its wines, Monbazillac and Pecharmant being the most famous. We can arrange to visit a local vineyard for a tasting and tour, however we would always recommend a visit to St Emilion The town is beautiful and there is an abundance of chateaux and vineyards only too happy to welcome you for a tasting and tour of their cellars and winery.

Chateaux Lanquaise, Biron etc.

Not all chateaux have vineyards, some offer the chance to step back in time at how the aristocracy used to live.

Beaumont to Sarlat

A trip out driving along the Dordogne valley is very much recommended. Visiting Lalinde, Beynac, Roque Gageac and finishing up in Sarlat la Canada with its many streets lined with medieval buildings. Returning via Domme the royal bastide, Belves and Monpazier is the perfect way to end a tour of this wonderful region.
